Montco’s Emergency Rent & Utilities Program offering move-in assistance beginning June 19, Elkins Park among areas most served

Beginning June 19, Montgomery County’s Emergency Rent and Utilities (ERU) Program will be offering move-in assistance (first month, last month, security deposit) to new applicants that meet the eligibility requirements.

The program stopped accepting new applications and recertifications on April 1 and is nearing an end after distributing $100 million to 8,300 households.

Elkins Park households were among the area’s most served, county officials said.

“These funds were crucial to stabilizing housing for people affected by COVID-19 and averting a higher wave of evictions during the pandemic,” Montgomery County Office of Housing and Community Development Administrator Kayleigh Silver said in a statement. “The pandemic has shown us that having stable and safe homes is crucial to health outcomes.”

A county spokesperson said assistance will continue to be provided until available funds run out. Renters facing eviction or utility shut offs notices related to the COVID-19 pandemic should contact 211 or yourwayhome@montgomerycountypa.gov.
