Mike O’Brien, Cheltenham grad and recently retired Marine, enters 2024 primary for U.S. Congress

Mike O’Brien, 42, an Elkins Park native and a recent retiree from the Marines as of August 30, announced on Wednesday his decision to enter the 2024 Democratic primary for U.S. Congress in Pennsylvania’s 10th District.

O’Brien, a graduate of Cheltenham High School and the U.S. Naval Academy, will try to unseat 6th-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Scott Perry, a Republican from northern York County.

“He’s the ringleader of the insurrection that attempted to overthrow our democracy, and so this is the fight,” O’Brien said of Perry in an interview with PennLive. “If we’re going to make a dent in the polarized political society that we live in today, it’s about, quite frankly, middle Pennsylvania… This is the place, and this where democracy makes a comeback.”
