Mike Brown, Cheltenham grad, narrowly missed the cut at 44th U.S. Senior Open

Michael R. Brown Jr., a 1991 graduate of Cheltenham High School, qualified for the 44th U.S. Senior Open which spans June 27-30 at the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I.

In the first two rounds, Brown shot a respectable 73-71—144, good for four over par and just missing the cut.

Of all the amateurs in the tournament, Brown tallied the second-best score, outshooting Frank Bensel, Jr., a 56-year-old club pro from New York who was nine over par with a 75-74—149.

On Friday, Bensel made golf history, recording back-to-back holes-in-one on the fourth and fifth holes. No golfer has accomplished that feat in United States Golf Association history.
