Melrose Country Club in Cheltenham proposes the construction of 300 townhomes, including 55+ housing units and assisted living facilities

The Melrose Country Club, located at 7600 Tookany Creek Pkwy in Cheltenham Township, presented a plan to Building and Zoning Committee officials during their regular meeting on Wednesday, April 3.

According to Henry Sekawungu, Director of Planning and Zoning, the plan calls for roughly 300 single family townhomes, including 130 55+ housing units and assisted living facilities on the 116-acre property.

The proposal also calls for commercial uses in some of the club’s existing buildings.

“They’re looking to have a zoning amendment to allow for those uses to be permitted,” Sekawungu said. “They will still be required to go through the zoning process and submit master plans, as well as economic impact studies. It was an initial presentation to get a feel for their plans for redevelopment.”

Sekawungu noted that Cheltenham’s commissioners seemed amenable to the presentation.

“They’ll be coming back next month for an amendment,” he said. “The property will still have 40 acres of green space, so they’ll be incorporating trails, a community facility, medical uses, and maybe even some kind of boutique grocery store.”

The club currently offers a full 18-hole golf course, driving range, indoor/outdoor bar, club lounges and a golf pro shop.
