Meet The Clean Plate Club: Glenside’s new kitchen space, now offering culinary classes

Sara and Keith Dreitlein, Glenside residents and owners of The Clean Plate Club in Abington, met at a culinary school in Rhode Island. Both have degrees in culinary arts and food service management, as well as MBAs to their names.

The new kitchen space is hosting a series of classes open to the public in November. Longtime owners of The Clean Plate Food Truck, which generally operates out of Northeast Philadelphia, the couple opened their first and only non-mobile location at 1170 Easton Road in March.

“We’re trying to leverage this space for more cooking classes. It’s primarily the prep space for our truck, which we use for street fairs and weddings, holiday meal pick-ups, all kinds of things,” Sara said. “We’ll host a ‘Sides ‘n Pies’ Thanksgiving food event on Wednesday, November 22.”

Their first instructional session took place on September 30. The next two are scheduled for Friday, November 10 (a fall-themed cooking class from 6:00pm – 8:00pm), and on Saturday, November 11 (a charcuterie board-making class with two sessions at 4:30pm – 5:45pm and 7:00pm = 8:15pm.

“The classes are nice and small. We typically limit them to 10 people. It’s very hands-on, you get to eat while you’re here, and then you get to take home recipes and instructions as well,” Sara said.

Sara and Keith can also be found one morning a month at Bill’s Best Brewery where they host brunch and occasional dinners. They’ll be appearing again the morning of November 19.

“Moving to Glenside, our neighbors and our environment have been better than we could have ever imagined. Everyone’s been supportive and welcoming,” Sara said. “We were living in East Falls and were looking for a house somewhere close enough to the city to run back and forth. We recently had a son, so we wanted him to have a smaller town feel. We’re hoping to parlay our friend relationships into more of a business community as well.”
