Meet Megan (McCormick) Miller: Glenside native, owner of the forthcoming Sine Timore Theatre Company in Abington

Megan (née McCormick) Miller, a Glenside native, Hatboro resident, and owner of the forthcoming Sine Timore Theatre Company in Abington Township, is looking forward to Saturday. Her new nonprofit theater company will host a grand opening at 1134 Easton Road from 12:00pm – 5:00pm.

The project is a long time coming. Miller said she’s been involved in the arts since her days at St. Luke’s School in Glenside and has always wanted to grow the theater scene in the suburbs.

“They didn’t have a theater program at the time, but I got into St. Luke’s Summer Stock. From there, I was itching for it, and I was always looking for programs to expand and learn,” she said. “I was wishing there was something in our backyard, and so it’s been a goal of mine since I was kid to make something like this happen.”

Miller studied theater in college and has directed junior shows for years. Her casts have included high school students from Cheltenham, Jenkintown, Abington, Springfield, Hatboro, and even Philly.

“Sine Timore is Latin for “without fear”, which Miller says speaks to her goal of involving everyone, including those initially reluctant to perform. Multiple family members have played a hand in her productions, she said.

“We’re a family-owned studio. My mom’s been a wonderful business partner through this. My sister’s my choreographer, my dad has helped me with sets, my husband has played minor roles in our shows. I try to make everyone feel like family,” she said. “St. Luke’s now has a theater program, which makes me really happy. I’m glad that people are able to come to us regardless of background or experience.”

She’ll be playing the role of Cinderella during the December 5, 6, and 7 productions of “Into the Woods” at the Cheltenham Center For The Arts. The show will feature two casts: Adults the first weekend, high schoolers/young adults the second. December 13 will include a sensory-friendly production of the show.

“It’s so that people on the spectrum can come and enjoy live theater,” she said. “We’ve got lots of ideas, and now that we have this studio, it feels like the sky is the limit. I want people to follow our progress, stop by and say hello, and get involved in a place where they can be creative without judgement.”
