McDevitt grad named recipient of post graduate scholarship, plans to own and operate an orthopedic practice

Lawrence Richardson, a 2019 graduate of the former Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, was profiled by Philadelphia Sports Digest with plans to own and operate an orthopedic practice after graduating from Morgan State University’s Master’s in Business Administration program.

Richardson, who graduated in May with a degree in biology, has been named a recipient of the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Post Graduate Scholarship.

“The Morgan State athletic department really helped me,” Richardson said. “I don’t have a football scholarship. My eligibility is gone so to figure out a way to pay for school was in the back of my mind.”

As a linebacker at Morgan State, he received Phil Steele FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) All-MEAC second team honors, was named to the Bluebloods All-MEAC first team, and earned NFF Hampshire Society honors. He recorded 50 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks last season.

A standout wrestler and football player in the Philadelphia Catholic League during his days in Wyncote, Richardson received the First Team Academic All-State Award from the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association.
