McDevitt grad, Hall of Famer wins state title as head coach for Philly-based prep school

Eric Young, a 1986 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, led the Philly-based West Catholic Preparatory High School girls’ track team to the PIAA 2A State Championship on Saturday, May 25.

Young is a graduate of East Stroudsburg University and currently serves as a Climate Manager at The Chester Upland School District and as head coach of West Catholic Prep’s boys’ and girls’ track and field teams.

According to Friends of McDevitt, Young was the school’s last girls’ track coach before its closure in 2021, a position which he accepted in 2016. He also served as the last president of the school’s Alumni Association.

In 2022, he was inducted into Bishop McDevitt’s Sports Hall of Fame.
