The Abington Township Police Department announced today the arrest of Zahir May for an array of offenses.
According to the report, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Maple Avenue on Thursday, October 8, at approximately 10:00pm for a report of a male suspect, later identified as May, attempting to enter the caller’s vehicle. An officer reviewed home surveillance footage of the incident and recognized May from an earlier sighting on Jenkintown Road.
The suspect was subsequently located inside a CVS store on Jenkintown Road, and officers attempted to take him into custody as he exited the store. May “violently resisted, resulting in an intense physical struggle and an officer-assistance call,” police said.
May reportedly injured several officers during the struggle, which included intentional kicks. None of the injuries required hospitalization, police said.
During the investigation, police learned that May was wanted by Cheltenham Township police in connection with two separate incidents in September involving allegations of assaulting and resisting multiple officers. He was also found to be in possession of a large quantity of suspected narcotics, merchandise reported stolen from CVS, and an airsoft gun modified to resemble an actual Glock firearm.
May is currently being held on charges related to this incident, as well as the outstanding warrant from Cheltenham Township, police said.
