Man sentenced for robbery and shooting at SEPTA bus loop in Cheltenham

Jahlil Dixon-El, 25, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to 8½ to 20 years in prison for robbing and shooting another man in the pelvis at the SEPTA bus loop in Cheltenham Township in August 2024, The Pottstown Mercury reported.

Dixon-El pleaded guilty to felony charges of aggravated assault and robbery and will receive credit for the time he spent in jail.

An investigation began on September 24, 2024, when Cheltenham police and SEPTA responded to a report of a shooting that occurred at West Cheltenham and Ogontz avenues. The victim told police that he fell asleep in a bus seat and, when he woke up, noticed that his cellphone, cash, prescription drugs and a computer tablet were missing, The Mercury said.

The victim said he saw three young males walking nearby and confronted them about his missing items, which they denied. The shooter then “reached into his pocket, pulled a pistol, and shot the victim one time”. The victim was then transported to Jefferson Abington Hospital for treatment.

SEPTA officials provided investigators with video that showed three males boarding the bus in Philadelphia and walking to the rear where the victim was asleep. Footage showed one of the males sitting behind the sleeping victim and then reaching over the seat to take a dark colored bag.

Police subsequently identified Dixon-El as a suspect and the victim identified him from a photo lineup, The Mercury said. Dixon-El was arrested days later.
