Man arrested at Wawa for assaulting police officers, threats, reckless driving

The Lower Moreland Police Department announced the arrest of Armand Xhelo, 42, for assaulting police officers—among other charges—outside of the Wawa at 2500 Philmont Avenue in Huntingdon Valley on Monday, December 4.

According to the Department, officers responded to an “armed subject” described as a white male wearing a black shirt and jeans and carrying a bat. 

Xhelo had reportedly caused a car accident and was threatening others in the parking lot. He “immediately became combative with police and tried to reach into the of his front right pants pocket,” police said. His actions included grabbing onto the roof rack of his vehicle to avoid being handcuffed, kicking at officers, and knocking a taser out of their hand.

While in police custody, he “kicked the interior of the patrol car window in an attempt to break it and was combative and uncooperative with officers,” police said.

His charges include:

(1) COUNT OF DISORDERLY CONDUCT (1) COUNT OF ACCIDENT INVOLV DAMAGE ATTENDED VEHICLE/PROP (1) COUNT OF DISORDER CONDUCT OBSCENE LANG/GEST – SUMMARY (1) COUNT OF RECKLESS DRIVING (1) COUNT OF CRIMINAL MISCHIEF – DAMAGE PROPERTY – SUMMARY CASE

The Philmont Avenue Wawa was robbed the next day in an unrelated incident.
