Lower Moreland police receive official state accreditation, Chief Scott Smith sworn in

The Lower Moreland Township announced that it has received its official Certificate of Law Enforcement Accreditation from the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association during the Board of Commissioner’s meeting Tuesday night.

The department also swore in its new Chief of Police, Scott C. Smith, who had previously served as Lieutenant since 2019. He was named Sergeant in 2009.

Chief Smith started his career with the department as a Patrol Officer in 2003. He has held the roles of Firearms Instructor and was head of the Firearms Training program, Field Training Officer and ran the Field Training Program, and has been a Certified Car Seat Technician for the Department. 

He was honored upon his 20th year of service last year.

“Chief Smith has come up through the ranks at Lower Moreland Township Police Department. We look forward to seeing where his vision will take us as a proactive and progressive police agency!” the department said in a post.
