Locals Coffee – Roastery & Cafe in Wyndmoor has a new exterior mural courtesy of Oreland native and celebrated Philadelphia artist Paul Carpenter.

Locals Coffee’s co-owner Scott Davis said Carpenter used a previous design for the Wissahickon Valley Park:

“He finished up over the weekend. It didn’t take him very long since he didn’t have to do it from scratch,” Davis said. “People are saying they’re really appreciative of the mural during their walks. It’s something that makes the community look even better.”

Davis noted some of Carpenter’s high-profile projects in the Philadelphia area, including a bottle design for the upcoming Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park.

“I’ve been buying his shirts for years. He’s always at the craft fairs and things like that. When I realized he lived in the area, I reached out and told him about the space,” Davis told Glenside Local. “He was very responsive and said he’d love to do it. The rest is history.”

“We’re trying to do as much as we can locally. Our scones, protein balls, they’re all made locally by small guys. We try to do a lot of that to keep things true to the name,” Davis said.

Davis and his wife Alana have lived in the area for roughly 20 years. Locals Coffee first opened in 2019.

“The business has been going really well. We moved locations a few years ago, so we have a drive-through now,” he said. “It’s been steadily growing and we’ve gotten some really nice feedback.”
