William Weir, a local eight-year-old who is battling retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer, served as the Abington Township Police Department’s “Chief of the Day” on Tuesday, November 4.
Chief William took his oath before heading out for a station tour and a day alongside Officer Mike Jones and K9 Shadow. You can watch the ceremony below:
Following the oath, members of the Abington Township Fire Department, Second Alarmer’s Association and Rescue Squad of Montgomery County, and the PA Game Commission lined the walkway outside of the township’s administration building to welcome Chief William.
“William continues to show incredible bravery as he faces his cancer diagnosis, and we were honored to share this moment with him and his family,” the department said in a post. “Thank you to everyone who helped make this day one he’ll never forget. Please join us in continuing to keep William and his family in your thoughts.”
