Local car rental replaces cash from stolen donations jar

If ever you have doubts about human nature or our community, please come back to this story.

We received a tip via Facebook that the owner of Game Junkie had just received a check for $200 to replace the amount in the jar stolen from the store Sunday morning. According to owner Frank Stanchek (above), the owner and employees of U-Save Car & Truck Rental of Glenside presented a check to the manager of Game Junkie today.

Frank told GlensideLocal that the three men entered the store shortly after it opened yesterday, claiming that they had a game console they wanted to trade for cash, though they didn’t have a machine with them.

“I think they came here to rob me,” he asserted. “They were waiting for me to open the register.” But when he told them it had no cash because he had just opened, they seemed to search for a plan B. Despite the jar clearly labeled for donations to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, one of the men is seen on the video taking it from the desk and running off with the other two.

According to Frank, the three men remain at large and the police are investigating.

Today, we have little choice but to recommend U-Save if you need to rent a car or truck.
