Local and county crews responded to Hazmat incident in Abington Township on August 6th

The Montgomery County Department of Public Safety and Edge Hill Fire Company reported that on August 6th at 6:26 a.m., the Montgomery County Hazardous Materials Response Team assisted the Edge Hill Fire Company and mutual aid units with an incident in Abington Township.

The incident began when a crew from the Edge Hill Fire Company responded to a fire alarm on the 2600 block of Limekiln Pike. Once on the scene, it was discovered that a smoldering chemical was generating smoke. The building houses research materials.

The Montgomery County Hazardous Materials Response Team was dispatched to the incident. According to county officials, there were two materials that had reacted due to overheating while being in storage. The materials were successfully removed from the building, packaged, and prepared for disposal.
