Lew’s Seafood celebrates 60 years in Glenside with unveiling of 152 Public House Bar & Restaurant

Dan Lahr, owner of 152 Public House, LLC, took over Lew’s Seafood on May 18. Sam Capreri, Lew’s previous owner, was planning to hang it up after roughly 40 years, and Lahr jumped at the opportunity.

Lahr moved to the area from Philly about 13 years ago when his wife was pregnant. He owned a couple businesses on South Street until rents started to spike, at which point he started a restaurant repair company, Clean Coil, LLC. Lew’s was one of his accounts.

152 Public House Bar and Restaurant was born from that account.

“I had been working on their cooking equipment for a few years. When Sam told me he was looking to retire, I decided to take a long look at possibilities and we came up with an agreement,” Lahr said. “I was able to buy the building, the license, and the business. The staff stayed on, the recipes have stayed the same, and we went forward from there.”


Sam, whose father, Lew, opened the restaurant in 1963, still makes appearances on Thursdays and Saturdays.

“I’ve had the takeout open since Day One,” Lahr said. “The bar had been closed since the pandemic, so I wanted to get that back open. There are about 60 seats in there. Both have been doing well.”

 “It’s been a long run for Lew’s and it’s a well-known name in the area. That’s why I gravitated there,” “We’re getting positive reviews. I’m happy with the feedback we’re getting in terms of the food and service. Our staff is great. I’m really appreciative of them and I’m very fortunate. We’re all a team and we all make this work.”

According to Lahr, shrimp, scallops, and flounder continue to be the seafood restaurant’s top three sellers.

“We probably go through 100 pounds of shrimp a week, and that’s just on the fried side,” he said. “One of the changes were with our chicken wings, and that’s been a good seller on the bar side.”

Saturday 11am – 12 midnight
Sunday 12 noon – 11pm
