Evan Addison, a 2018 graduate of La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, recently broke the 4:00 mile and ran a personal best at the Villanova Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex.
After completing a running career at the University of Pittsburgh, Addison is now running as a graduate student. His time was 3:59:57.
He joins Dan Lowry ’08 and Tom Coyle ’13 at the only three Explorers to run a sub 4:00 mile in school history.
“I was so incredibly happy for Evan to achieve this amazing milestone,” Greg Bieliecki ’99, Addison’s former head coach, said. “Evan has always been a really talented runner who was willing to work incredibly hard. But more than that, Evan was really resilient and completely process oriented. He always dealt with success and failure alike and saw them as part of the process of continual improvement. So it was clear from his time here that he was going to always look for ways to keep getting better and running faster.”
“I am so proud that we have now produced 3 student-athletes who have gone on to create this amazing legacy,” Coach Bielecki said. “I think it speaks to a culture that the team has created where they aren’t afraid to chase excellence and love doing so as part of a team. It’s pretty awesome that 3 of our guys have gone on to etch their name in the history of US Track & Field, and I honestly think there are more to come.”
In his senior year at La Salle, Addison set the La Salle Record in the mile at 4:15:74.
