Kiwanis Club of Jenkintown launches ‘Book Train’ Community Book Drive throughout March

The Kiwanis Club of Jenkintown is inviting community members to participate in its Book Train Community Book Drive, a collection effort running March 1–31.

New and gently used books for children and teens can be dropped off at more than a dozen locations throughout Abington and greater Glenside. Donated books will be distributed to local organizations serving children and families in need, including Mitzvah Circle and Jenkintown Day Nursery.

The drive welcomes books in good, clean condition for readers of all ages, from board books for babies and toddlers to young adult fiction for teens. Organizers are especially seeking picture books, early readers, chapter books, graphic novels, and books that reflect diverse cultures, identities, and experiences.

Drop-off locations include Briar Bush Nature Center, Kids First Swim School, Action Karate Huntingdon Valley, Baby Gear Group Jenkintown, The Little Gym of Abington, Mosaic Fitness, the Willow Grove YMCA, Sumatra Cafe, Capricorn Books, Jenkintown Library, Abington Free Library, Glenside Public Library, Abington Senior High School, Cheltenham High School, and Wissahickon High School. An interactive map of all drop-off locations is available here.

“Your donated books will help spark imagination, support literacy, and ensure more young people have access to stories they can love,” the club noted on its website.

Community members who wish to go beyond donating books can share the drive with friends and neighbors, organize a mini collection at a workplace, school, or club, or volunteer to help sort and transport books. Those interested in volunteering or with questions can contact Janet Crawford at jcrawford0615@gmail.com.

The Kiwanis Club of Jenkintown has been serving the local community for 76 years through a variety of service and fundraising projects.
