The Keswick Community Resilience Coalition (KCRC), a newly formed network focused on preparing residents of Abington, Jenkintown, Cheltenham, and beyond for emergencies, offered the following tips to prevent and handle snow damage:
Keep Walkways Safe
Once you clear your sidewalk, don’t stop there. Stay on top of ice buildup to prevent slips, falls, and liability issues.
Tree Damage: Know What Matters
If a tree comes down, remember: what is damaged matters more than who owns the tree. Damage to structures, fences, or vehicles is what determines next steps.
Document & Prevent Further Damage
As soon as it’s safe:
• Photograph all damage
• Remove wet debris
• Cover exposed areas with tarps, cardboard, or whatever you have on hand to prevent additional issues
Call Your Insurance Agent First
Before filing a claim, contact your insurance AGENT, NOT the claims department. They’ll help you understand:
• Your coverage
• Your deductibles
• Whether filing a claim makes sense
Use Your Insurance
You’ve paid for coverage – don’t hesitate to use it when you need it.
