Judge Gail A. Weilheimer, Abington resident & former Abington commissioner, to serve on the U.S. District Court

Montgomery County Judge Gail A. Weilheimer, an Abington resident and former Abington Township commissioner (2005-2009), has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Mainline Media News reported.

According to the story, her term begins in January 2025.

“I’m thrilled to have the endorsement of the Senate and to have this new opportunity. But I will say it is also bittersweet because I have had an incredible 11 years here on the Common Pleas bench working with an amazing group of people, my colleagues, the staff, and had the opportunity to do really good work,” Weilheimer told Mainline Media.

“For decades, Judge Weilheimer has served the people of Southeastern Pennsylvania with integrity. From the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office to the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, her experience makes her exceptionally qualified to take on this new role,” Senator Bob Casey wrote in a statement. “I was pleased to vote to confirm Judge Weilheimer and I look forward to seeing her continue to serve the people of the Eastern District.”

In July, she was nominated by President Joe Biden to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
