The opening night of Jenkintown Music Theatre’s production of Bright Star, written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, is scheduled for Friday, April 5.
Jenkintown Borough Council President Jay Connors and Ben Bergman of the Jenkintown 150 Committee will kick off the festivities with a ribbon cutting to officially open the show. The event will include a red carpet entrance, a tribute to Jenkintown Music Theatre alumni in the audience, and a lobby adorned with photos and videos showcasing JMT’s history.
The opening coincides with Jenkintown Borough’s sesquicentennial celebration and serves as a tribute to the 79-year contribution of Jenkintown Music Theatre to the community.
From the show’s description:
Inspired by a true story, Broadway’s BRIGHT STAR tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp, BRIGHT STAR is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.
