The Jenkintown Recreation Board is happy to be back with another Fall Jawn on Sunday, November 6 from 1:00-3:00pm in Jenkintown Square. The afternoon will include the traditional Chili Cook-off, the annual Pumpkin Drop, a live band and classic Halloween music, Scare on the Square games and activities for kids, and beer for purchase courtesy of Human Robot Jenkintown.

Volunteers on behalf of Jenkintown Food Cupboard will be on hand to provide information about the Cupboard’s work in the community.

“It’s a fun event. It’s good to see all the neighbors out and about before it gets colder. We’ll hopefully be celebrating a World Series win,” Borough Council and Jenkintown Recreation Board member Alex Bartlett said. “You can wear your costumes and bring the most rotten pumpkins you have. They splatter the best.”

The Pumpkin Drop features a special cage constructed by former Mayor Foley and crew.

“It looks flimsy but it works,” Bartlett said. “They pull a cord and the pumpkins come falling down. The cage is about 10 stories high. The ladder truck takes it way up, and then we do it again and again until all the pumpkins are gone. It’s an exercise in hilarious stupidity. We’ve been doing it for years.”

The Chili Cook-off will take place at 1:00pm. Chili tasting and judging is set for 2:30pm after the Pumpkin Drop. Cook-off winners will be crowned at 2:45pm.
