According to the Jenkintown School District, this past week generated over 400 lbs of lunch waste. That equates to over 15,000 pounds of lunch waste annually.
This announcement comes directly from the Jenkintown School District.
From April 29 to May 3, all trash and recycling that students bring to school will be sent home. Volunteers will help students bag up opened-but-not-finished containers (i.e. drink pouches & yogurt) before placing it back in the lunch boxes.
Please consider packing a Waste-Free Lunch: reusable lunchbox, reusable food containers, a refillable drink bottle, stainless steel/wooden utensils and a cloth napkin.
Give it a try! Let’s see what we can do to reduce our waste. See the attached flyer for lunch ideas and ways to make Waste-Free Lunch easy.
