Jenkintown police warn of scam targeting business owners

The Jenkintown Police Department announced today that it has received numerous reports from business owners who have received fraudulent phone calls.

According to police, the fraudulent individual is identifying himself as a Jenkintown police officer and uses the name(s) of retired officers to receive payments under the guise of missed court dates or mandatory payments.

“We want to remind everyone that the police do not collect money for the court in any form or for any other agency,” police said. “The public can always verify the legitimacy of police inquiries made via phone by hanging up and calling 911 to have a dispatcher contact our officers. Additionally as with any scam, never provide personal information to unknown individuals over the phone.”
