Jenkintown Police Department to see a two-position reduction in 2025

Jenkintown Borough Council’s 2025 budget adoption on Wednesday, December 11 included no millage increase and the elimination of two police positions.

“The 2025 budget includes further preservation of public property, upgrading of equipment, PD vehicle replacement, upgrades to Borough Hall, Financial and Code Enforcement software, IT technology, training, staffing, benefit and wage improvements,” borough manager George Locke said in an email.

The email notes that due to a police officer’s retirement (effective February 2025) and two separate independent studies, there will be a two-position reduction in the department’s staff in the 2025 budget.

“I would be remiss not to mention that a signification portion of the 01 General fund expenses (approx. 50%) is the Police Department budget, and that contract was still under negotiation when the budget was required by State code to be legally adopted,” Locke said in a letter.

“There will be no loss of Police services while the PBA and Borough Council continue to work to come to an agreement on the contract terms,” the letter continued.
