Press Release:
After four incredible seasons in Town Square alongside the Jenkintown Music Series, we’re turning a new page — and that starts with our name. We are relaunching as the Jenkintown Farmers Market, because that’s what we’ve always been at our core: a place for fresh, locally grown food from real farmers and producers. The new name says what we are.
And we have a new home. Starting this summer, we’ll be setting up every Thursday evening in the Jenkintown Library parking lot — and we couldn’t be more excited about what that means for our vendors, our shoppers, and our community.
We are so proud of what we built in Town Square. The energy, the music, the summer evenings with neighbors — that was real, and we’re grateful for every season of it. But a farmers market lives or dies by its vendors, and after honest conversations with our vendor base, the reality is clear: our vendors weren’t making enough money.
A big crowd loves the Music Series, but that doesn’t always mean people come ready to shop for fresh produce and local goods. We’ve recruited new vendors every year to replace ones who couldn’t make it work financially. That’s not fair to them, and it’s not a sustainable model for the market.
The Thursday evening slot and the Library location change that equation. We’re already seeing it — farm vendors who couldn’t commit to the Town Square setup are back on board. The Library lot puts us directly on Route 611 with real visibility and dedicated parking, on a night when we’re not competing with the needs of open Jenkintown businesses for those spots.
And this move is about more than just the market. The Jenkintown Library is a cornerstone of this community, and like so many public institutions right now, they’re navigating real budget pressures. A thriving weekly market brings foot traffic, new faces, and energy to their doorstep — and that partnership opens doors for programming and community engagement that showcases what we can achieve together
The mission hasn’t changed: fresh, local food grown and made by real producers, right here in Jenkintown. We’re just giving it a better home. And don’t worry – the Tuesday night music series will continue. That is managed dutifully and awesomely by the Jenkintown Rec Board.
Opening day is Thursday, May 21st! See you then!
