Jenkintown native Kristin Mailhiot, who co-owns Long Beach Island-based Jersey Girl Grill, has been drawing viral attention for launching the cafe’s “smash burger taco” earlier this summer.

Mailhiot opened Jersey Girl 16 years ago with her husband, Shawn, after spending many summers in LBI. According to the Daily Voice Ocean, she worked as a teenager at the same spot Jersey Girl now occupies.

Instagram and TikTok have been a source of the taco’s enthusiasm.

“I had people emailing and calling — grandmothers coming in asking for it,” she told the Daily Voice Ocean. “It’s one of those things that spans all age groups. Kids come on lunch dates with their grandma, and both get the same thing and enjoy it. It’s definitely taken off.”

“Everyone loves a taco and everyone loves a burger,” she said. “I made mine a little more every day, and we’ve gone from there. It’s been a huge success for us.”
