Jenkintown Community Playground castle to be dismantled due to safety issues

Jenkintown School District officials announced today that the Jenkintown Community Playground castle will be dismantled within 1-2 years, if not sooner.

Dr. Megan O’Brien, Board President, and Dr. Jill Takacs, Superintendent, sent a memo to the district community regarding the determination.

“The current plan is to ensure the playground is as safe as possible in the near term,” the memo said. “The District will make limited investments to main the structure. Several repairs are planned to occur in the next few weeks, and this will be covered by donations to the Jenkintown Education Foundation.”

The memo notes that the final scope and timing of the project is yet to be determined, and that the community will be given opportunities over the coming months to provide input and help fundraise.

On September 10, Jenkintown officials sent a memo announcing that three areas of the castle have been identified as unsafe.
