Jenkintown Borough shares updated soil testing results from SPS fire, DEP to host webinar on May 20

Jenkintown Borough announced that it has received the soil testing results from TRC Environmental Corporation performed on behalf of SPS Technologies to assess whether there were discernible impacts to these properties from the fire.  

According to the report, samples were taken at the borough’s public properties, Town Square and Moretti Park. Soil was tested for asbestos, cyanide, metals and PAHs.

The report notes that Jenkintown School District property as well as several private properties in Jenkintown were additionally tested. Those results will be shared with the private property owners and then posted to the SPS website.

In February, borough engineer Pennoni Associates Inc. assisted in analyzing testing data and making recommendations based on that analysis. Pennoni’s Environmental Department analyzed all data and provided the evaluation report below:

In related news, the Department of Environmental Protection will host a webinar on Tuesday, May 20 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm, during which updates related to the SPS fire response will be shared, as well as Air Quality, Clean Water, Waste Management, and Environmental Cleanup and Brownfields program role and responsibilities associated with the SPS fire response. More details about surface water, health-related information and soil sampling results will be shared as well.
