Jenkintown Borough Hall Closed Today, Friday

The ongoing demolition of the building adjacent to Borough Hall has reached a critical phase. Because the two buildings share an exterior wall, workers must complete the work by hand. Essentially, Borough Hall is an addition or annex to what is a former dairy building that would become the Life Center for the Salem Baptist Church.

The reasons for building this way are likely lost in the midsts of time. Given the look of Borough Hall, one might be forgiven for thinking that the Borough enlisted a first-year architectural student to save money who sketched it on a napkin.

Because of this, Jenkintown Borough hall will be closed today, Thursday, April 18th and Friday, April 19th.

Borough hall will reopen for business at 8:00 AM on Monday, April 22nd.

The Structural Engineer has completed their final analysis and while the inspections and calculations indicated the remaining portion of the common wall should withstand the wind loads that could be imposed, the results did not indicate that Borough hall would be safe to be occupied during the remaining demolition of the common wall.

The demolition at 610 Summit Avenue as it applies to the common wall with Borough hall is on schedule to be completed by the end of the week, Friday April 19th.

Given all of the information provided, the decision was made to exercise caution was made and is appropriate given the possible danger to life safety of the General Public and Borough Employees.

Unfortunately, there will be no walk in business/service available during this period, but Borough Administration will be working remotely in the Borough and will be able to respond to concerns through email or the Borough website. The Borough Administration will not have access to the computer network until Monday, April 22nd.

Jenkintown Police Department Patrol and calls for service will not be affected.  If you need to speak to an officer call 215-884-1200 or if there is an emergency call 911
