Jenkintown Borough Council Meeting Notes

At last night’s council meeting for February, 2019, Jenkintown Borough Council discussed and decided these issues and more:

The Council passed an ordinance amending its zoning code to allow for surface car storage within its boundaries, but only in what was described as the “high rise district” or the area near the train station.

The resignations of Melissa Ashton-Young and Rick Bunker were both accepted by Council making them official. Mr. Bunker served as the Council’s vice-president and chaired the Administration and Finance Committees. He leaves with three years unserved on his term. Ms. Ashton-Young’s term would have ended this year.

Council decided to advertise the empty seats rather than simply making appointments. This is not required by law and is a practice that Council employed only within the last three years. Jenkintown residents who have signed up for email announcements with the Borough can expect to receive a notice to this effect.

Khal Hassan, the Borough’s consulting engineer from Pennoni Associates reported that his company has completed the final estimates for the construction of the proposed Cedar Street park. It will be ready by March 1.

Borough Manager George Locke reported that the Borough has either received or is on tap to receive nearly $200,000 in state and federal grants for such items as brownfield remediation and environmental studies.
