Jefferson Health, Penn Medicine targeting Montgomery County for new care centers, Jefferson Abington receiving ER expansion

Jefferson Health and the University of Pennsylvania Health System are targeting Montgomery County locations to expand their networks of care centers, The Philadelphia Business Journal reported.

According to their coverage, Jefferson Health CEO Dr. Joseph Cacchione said he would like to see Jefferson invest “more than $1 billion on multiple projects that could include ambulatory care centers, community hospitals and smaller ‘neighborhood’ hospitals with emergency departments.”

Specific locations for future facilities are not public yet. The story notes that Jefferson is currently expanding and modernizing Abington Jefferson Hospital as part of a $49 million investment which includes Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Center City.

In related news, Temple Health, which has outpatient care sites in Fort Washington and Elkins Park, is considering building another in North Philadelphia.
