Dr. Herbert E. Auerbach, Jefferson Abington’s Department of Pathology Chair, has been named a recipient of the Alfred S. Frobese Day Award.
From their announcement:
Since 1983, Jefferson Abington Hospital designated a special day in honor of the late Dr. Alfred S. Frobese, a well-respected physician who served as Chief of Staff. Dr. Auerbach was recognized for his 34-year career and his commitment as an extraordinary clinician, passionate teacher and generous contributor to the excellent care delivered to our patients. Throughout his career, Dr. Auerbach authored or collaborated on numerous research articles, added equipment to automate chemistry and immunoassay testing, and managed extreme blood shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In related news, the hospital’s cardiac surgery team (pictured above) completed their 1,000th TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) case last week.
According to their announcement, the procedure allows patients with aortic valve stenosis—the narrowing of the aortic valve—to reap the benefits of a minimally invasive procedure which involves placing a replacement valve into the aortic valve’s location through a catheter.
