The Jefferson Abington Hospital OB/GYN team was honored to participate in Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church’s 3rd Annual Black Maternal Health Summit and Expo, facilitated by CocoLife Black, on Saturday March, 16th.
“Black women are impacted by maternal mortality rates 3 to 4x higher than average. Being part of the solution to this critical problem is best served by listening to and partnering with and in the community,” Jefferson said in a statement.
The Black Maternal Health Summit included Dr. Jason Baxter, Interim Chair, OB/GYN; Dr. Susan Utterback, Nurse Director, Women Services and other Jefferson Abington Hospital OB/GYN physicians. Tracy Cottrell, Medical Education Manager, organized the Jefferson Abington Hospital OB/GYN Department’s participation in the event.
The expo and baby shower brought in over 300 attendees, providing both health information and an assortment of supplies and items for babies and parents that were collected by the hospital’s OB/GYN team. Additionally, they led three educational sessions and Jefferson Health also provided mammograms on site.
