Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu, a 1967 graduate of Cheltenham High School, left a Jerusalem hospital against his doctor’s orders to help his party pass “a divisive budget law,” CNN reported today.
According to their coverage, Netanyahu, now 75, underwent prostate removal surgery and two days later spent the day at the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, to push a bill “aimed at regulating how companies in Israel distribute dividends and pay taxes.” The bill passed by one vote.
“I just left Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and want to thank the many, many of you, citizens of Israel, for the prayers, strength and support that greatly moved me and my family,” he tweeted Thursday.
The Associated Press said that the prime minster “has had a series of health issues in recent years as he manages multiple crises including the war in Gaza and his trial for alleged corruption.” Their coverage also noted that he “is among older world leaders including U.S. President Joe Biden, 82, President-elect Donald Trump, 78, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 79, and Pope Francis, 88, who have come under scrutiny for their age and health issues.”
In September, Netanyahu was featured in a full-length documentary titled “The Bibi Files.”
