Huntingdon Valley church highlighted for its thriving Brazilian congregation

The Huntingdon Valley Presbyterian Church was recently highlighted in The Bucks County Courier Times for its thriving Brazilian congregation.

Thiago Bruno Sousa, a native of northeastern Brazil, is a pastor at Fellowship Presbyterian Church, and his 100 immigrant members are being combined with Pastor Daniel Morrison’s 200-member flock at HVPC.

“Normally, you find your demographic, and you work with it, but this is much more complicated,” Morrison said. “Bringing these two groups together requires believers on both sides of the aisle to be more accommodating, intentional, and humble.”

The article notes that Brazilian immigration has soared in recent years as a response to the violence and dwindling economies of South America. According to the Migration Policy Institute, an estimated 245,870 Brazilians came to the United States between 2000 and 2019, a 233% increase from the previous 20-year period.
