Huntingdon Valley Athletic Association, Upper Moreland Swim Club feat. by CBS News for ‘beat the heat’ strategies

As greater Glenside moves through this week’s Excessive Heat Watch, CBS News paid a visit to the Huntingdon Valley Athletic Association Soccer Camp and the Upper Moreland Swim Club to find out how people in the area are beating the heat.

Senior counselor John Zuidema helped keep campers cool by offering a creative cooling system idea from his camp director.

“Get some water guns out here and have them be able to just kind of get each other a little bit wet and I’ve also seen a lot of the kids pouring water on their own heads and stuff like that too,” Zuidema said.

At the Upper Moreland Swim Club, lifeguard Abby Schneider was looking for signs of heat illness.

“If they’re really red, they say they’re experiencing dizziness, nausea, lightheadedness,” she said.

“They’re amazing. Our lifeguards, I trust them with everything,” Alice Creswick, a resident of Willow Grove, said. “They’re amazing kids.”
