Chief Lee Greenberg of the Horsham Fire Company issued a statement today regarding former member William McNichol who was arrested by the Hatboro Police Department on Saturday, June 21.
Hatboro police announced the arrest yesterday. According to the report, McNichol conducted a traffic stop while impersonating a police officer at the intersection of S York Road and Byberry Road following a road rage incident. He used emergency lighting equipment to signal the victim of the road rage incident to pull over, police said.
NBC10 reported today that McNichol, a company police officer, said he was cut off by a female driver along Easton Road and then “turned his car around to follow the driver because he wanted to tell her that she was driving dangerously.”
He also told police that that the emergency lights turned on because his cooler fell inside his car.
The female driver said “McNichol got out of his car and started yelling at her using profanities” then continued to follow her while allegedly running a red light, NBC10 wrote.
According to Horsham Fire Company’s statement, McNichol’s membership has been terminated.
“We want to make it absolutely clear that Mr. McNichol acted entirely on his own and without any direction, guidance, or influence from the Fire Company,” the statement said.
The memo goes on to note that the company’s training or instruction did not encourage “him to believe that his actions were appropriate, acceptable, or lawful.”
Hatboro police announced today that McNichol’s preliminary hearing is set for August 21.
