Hillside Cemetery’s German War Memorial was erected in 1903 and was rededicated with a commemorative plaque on May 18, 2003 to honor casualties during the German/American War.
According to local historian Mike Leibrandt, the memorial marks the site of the Frano/Prussian War where Napoleon III was defeated, and a large number of Hessians died on the grounds.
The North Penn VFW Post 676 is planning to dedicate a new plaque for the Battle of Edge Hill in early December at 2519 Jenkintown Road.
