History with Chuck: Steve Goldberg, three-year standout for CHS football

Steve Goldberg, a 1974 Cheltenham High School graduate, was a three-year varsity football starter from 1972 to 1974.

At 5-9, 160-pounds, Goldberg had a banner season playing wide receiver and defensive back on the 8-2 1973 team, after which he switched to quarterback for the 1974 season.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, he not only ran the offense but also played defensive safety, returned punts, belonged to the kickoff team, and punted. The only time Goldberg sat on the bench was when he was too banged up to play.

Goldberg led the 1974 CHS football team to an 8-3 record before matriculating at Temple University where he earned a partial football scholarship.
