Ms. Linda Jane Lonsinger (above right), a 1963 Abington Senior High School graduate and Huntingdon Valley native, went on to teach physical education at Cheltenham High School from 1967 until her retirement in 1999.
According to local historian Chuck Langerman, Lonsinger was a member of Abington’s lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball teams, and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from then West Chester State College.
She passed away on February 13, 2018 in Huntingdon Valley at the age of 72.
Nancy Dennery Mayes, a colleague at Cheltenham, posted this condolence to her obituary:
Linda and I were classmates in college at WCU and we enjoyed playing sports together. We continued our friendship as we both had teaching careers in the Cheltenham School District. I will remember Linda as a dedicated, fun-loving, teacher, coach, and friend. She will be missed. Rest in peace.
If you have any memories of Ms. Lonsinger’s 32-year tenure at Cheltenham or her time at Abington, please feel free to leave them in the comments.
