History with Chuck: Dr. Scriven, Superintendent of Cheltenham schools, made history 30 years ago

Dr. Brian Scriven, a 1983 Cheltenham grad and current Superintendent of the Cheltenham Township School District, made history back in 1993.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, The Baltimore Sun featured Dr. Scriven 30 years ago for becoming the first African-American head football coach at Woodlawn High in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Scriven coached the Woodlawn Warriors for five years from 1993 to 1997, compiling a very respectable (39-15) record. At Cheltenham High, Brian was a first-team All-Suburban One league running back and defensive end in football.
