Detective Donald Suchinsky, 60, a Hatboro resident and a 34-year-veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, was sentenced on Thursday, June 26 to 6.5 – 13 years in prison for sexually assaulting the mother of a homicide victim, as well as the sister of another murder victim, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The victim’s son was fatally shot in the head in November 2020. The murderer was never found.
After Suchinsky was assigned to the mother while serving as a detective, he “started asking her for photos of herself and suggested they go out together,” The Inquirer wrote. He also reportedly groped her and put his hands down her pants while helping her find a parking spot near the former Philadelphia Police Headquarters.
He was placed on restricted duty in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct and was fired after the first round of charges were filed in February 2023. That May, he was charged again after a second woman alleged he had assaulted her at least 10 times, The Inquirer said.
From the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announcement in May 2023:
Suchinsky had previously been arrested and charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault and related offenses by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) on February 23, 2023, for allegedly assaulting the mother of a homicide victim, whose murder he had also been involved in investigating. A Municipal Court judge ordered Suchinsky held for court on the first set of charges in April.
Suchinsky pleaded guilty to indecent assault by forcible compulsion and official oppression. He will also be a registered sex offender for 25 years.
District Attorney Larry Krasner commented on the sentencing in the video below:
