Greater Glenside Civic Association to plant 100 trees in 2024

The Greater Glenside Civic Association (GGCA) announced today their plan to plant 100 trees throughout Glenside in 2024.

The organization said area residents can help by planting a tree themselves through the Abington Shade Tree Commission’s Free Tree Giveaway on April 27. Registration for free trees opens soon and will be shared by the GGCA.

We will be sharing the registration link on our Facebook page and through our newsletter at the beginning of March.

Community members are also invited to spread the word through social media and sharing information with neighbors. Please email info@glensidecivic.org to join the team.

From the announcement:

This ambitious project stems from careful consideration of community input and a recognition of the environmental needs in our area. Over the last year, we have engaged with residents to understand the priorities of our community. One priority is clear: a strong desire to enhance our local green spaces and replant our disappearing tree canopy.

By planting 100 trees in 2024, we will create a lasting legacy on Glenside’s well-being. Trees provide many benefits, from improving air quality and cooling our streets to supporting biodiversity and creating pleasing green spaces for generations to enjoy.

We understand that such a significant undertaking requires the collective efforts of our neighbors, businesses and Abington Shade Tree Commission. As such, we invite you to join us in this endeavor. Whether you have a green thumb or are simply passionate about the environment, there are various ways to get involved.

Together, we can make Glenside an even more vibrant and green community. Stay tuned for updates on our progress, and let’s make 2024 the year we come together to plant the seeds of a greener, healthier future for Glensiders!

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our community.

Warm regards,
Greater Glenside Civic Association, Neighborhood Improvement Committee
