Gov. Shapiro signs 6 new bills into law

Governor Josh Shapiro signed three new House bills and three new Senate bills into law on Wednesday.

HB 797 closes a loophole in firefighter pensions by repealing the remarriage provision, ensuring surviving spouses retain benefits.

HB 1251 allows nurse-midwives to sign fetal death certificates and refer patients for physical therapy.

HB 2163 addresses additional regulatory adjustments.

SB 507, known as the Midwifery Modernization Act, licenses certified midwives and allows them to prescribe treatments for opioid use disorder.

SB 848 adds representatives to the State Planning Board from PEMA and the Historical and Museum Commission.

SB 867 modernizes the Accessibility Advisory Board’s review process for building codes.
