On Tuesday, December 19, and Wednesday, December 20, Google presented its Online Safety Roadshow to sixth grade students at Elkins Park School and Cedarbrook Middle School, respectively.
The program came to Cheltenham School District through Pennsylvania Representative Napoleon J. Nelson’s office.
During the 45-minute assembly, students learned important skills, including how to create a safe and memorable password, avoid talking to strangers, prioritizing well-being, and being kind online.
“We appreciate Google creating an interactive way for students to learn safely about the power of the internet,” said EP Principal Dr. Crystal Clark. “In today’s environment, it is crucial for our students to gain the knowledge and skills to navigate the online world responsibly.”
The Online Safety Roadshow is part of Google’s initiative to help empower young people with tools and training they need to safely explore online. Google is dedicated to creating safe experiences for children across its platforms with strong parental protections and dedicated features that help young people and their parents navigate their time online. Google’s Online Safety Roadshow is based on the Be Internet Awesome curriculum, which focuses on five tips for staying safe and being smart online. Those tips include:
- Sharing content with care
- Don’t fall for fake online scams
- Secure your information with strong passwords
- When in doubt, talk it out with a trusted adult
- Be kind to others online
