A GoFundMe has been launched by Randy Mims of Glenside, whose rental property on Cobden Road was destroyed by a fire in May 2023.
According to the campaign’s description, the property has yet to be rebuilt and is described as “an eyesore for the community.”
From the campaign’s description:
A tenant occupied rental property caught on fire on May 9th 2023. Five caged dogs were killed in the fire. No human life was lost, but the house was destroyed in the fire. Local residents of Glenside and Lavarock and Cheltenham are disappointed and upset because the house has still not been rebuilt, and is an eyesore for the community. Random anonymous letters have been received regarding their disappointment that the house has not been rebuilt yet. What residents don’t understand nor know, is that the homeowners insurance company, although paid in full for the year, and valid at the time of the fire, American Modern Insurance Company, has failed and thus far refused to provide any reimbursement for the rebuilding of the house, and that’s why it remains an eyesore for the community in burned down condition. Now a year later, American Modern Insurance company is still fighting with the homeowner, Randy Mims, and forcing him to undergo an examination under oath, before determining if they want to honor their insurance policy and reimburse the homeowner for the damages, despite the fact that the policy was in Force at the time of the fire, and fully paid for. The fact that the American Modern Insurance company has failed the pay out in good faith should be a warning sign to people considering insuring their homes with American Modern Insurance Company. You normally believe that as long as you pay your premiums one time, that you can get coverage like you pay for, but that’s not always the case it seems. Now money is needed to repair the house and restore it to its original condition, so that the property is no longer an eyesore for the community. Please consider donating to help fund the rebuilding of this house project. The Glenside code office has even issued 5 citations to the homeowner, due to it not being yet, which could easily be done promtly, should the funds be available to rebuild the house. Please help Randy with your donations, so he can afford to restore the house to its original beautiful condition, and to restore and rebuild the house, so that it’s no longer an eyesore nor a detriment to the community.
