“We had [more than]…1,900 registered, lots of no shows due to the weather, but about 1,150 crossed the Run finish line and about 300 completed the 2 mile Walk,” explained Ms. Beth Kenas of the Abington Branch of the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA.
“The Run Course [starting] line [was] on Huntingdon Road, one-half of a block from the Abington YMCA,” according to a statement from the YMCA. “The run…[proceeded] through a quiet residential area of Abington Township with rolling hills finishing Olympic style on the track at Memorial Field.”
“The 2 Mile Walk [Course was]…predominantly flat, with the last mile running parallel to the runners,” according to the statement. “Families, strollers and all ages…[participated] in the walk. The walk [was]…not timed.”
In the statement from the YMCA, it is noted that “All proceeds of this event benefit the Abington YMCA Financial Assistance program, insuring that no one is turned away from valuable YMCA services due to inability to pay.”
A number of photographs will be displayed in a separate news article tomorrow.
