Glenside resident battling Stage IV esophageal cancer feat. in the Irish Star

Seamus Meenagh, a 54-year-old Glenside resident who is battling Stage IV esophageal cancer, was recently featured in the Irish Star.

Meenagh, a father of two, was diagnosed in May after developing a hoarse voice and difficulty swallowing. The article gives an update on his condition: “The disease has spread to his spine and there is no cure. Seamus has taken ‘a turn for the worst’ and has been forced to give up work as a contractor.

“His wife, Kerri, 49, a pediatric nurse practitioner, may need to do the same if her husband’s condition deteriorates further. The couple, who live in Glenside, is also supporting their daughters, Aisling, 21, and Saorla, 19, through college but fear the road ahead “will take a toll both emotionally and financially,” the article said.

Seamus and his wife Kerri are currently supporting their daughters’ college education at Temple University and Catholic University. A GoFundMe was launched on Monday, December 11 on behalf of the family and has raised $44,279 at the time of this writing.

The article also notes that Meenagh emigrated from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, to the U.S. in the 1980s to escape “The Troubles,” a nickname given to the region’s ethno-nationalist conflict that lasted from the late 1960s to 1998.
